Based on real events, ‘Notes’ is a powerful drama detailing the devastation to personality, memory, thinking and emotion caused by dementia.

Terry is a man in his seventies battling Alzheimer’s disease. We watch him struggle with his memory but the true shocking state of his condition is only revealed when his daughter comes to visit.

The story opens by focussing on Terry, living in sheltered housing, and his daily obsessions. We get a brief glimpse into the repetitious behaviour and fear that pervades the typical Alzheimer’s sufferer. We see his struggle with mundane tasks and reveal his suspicions regarding his daughter.

The film reveals the pain of knowing someone you love is going before they are gone.

Its intended purpose is to reveal the daily realities of dealing with what Terry Pratchett calls the ‘disease behind closed doors that affects almost everybody in some way but no one talks about’ (this is a quote from an interview with Channel 4).

It is meant to be exhibited in all manner of media so that people can talk openly about how to tackle the disease, both in terms of government investment into medical research and application and investment into providing the carers with the essential help and guidance that they need so that they do not risk their own emotional health.
